Star Wars Dolls: Instructions to Make Your Own Felt Dolls

Star Wars Dolls

I missed the boat on getting these Star Wars dolls done by May the 4th, but at least it is still the month of May. I consider that all good. That gives plenty of time for people to make these in time for next year, right?:) As with my LOTR dolls, I hope to do more characters from Star Wars, but this is just to get started. As shown above, I have Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca. I’m finding it very difficult to stay focused on just one movie or show at a time!

Star Wars Doll Patterns

Attached are the patterns for Leia, Luke, Han, and Chewy. You can either print the patterns on paper, or transfer the patterns onto something sturdier, like cardboard or card stock.

If you are more of a visual learner, or if you’d just like to see how these babies come together, I have a video for that. You can check it out!

Step One

Print and cut out the pattern pieces. If you want to store the pieces all together (I put mine in a sandwich bag), you can write an initial on each of the pieces so you know which pieces go with which character.

Step Two

Using patterns as guides, cut out the pieces from felt. If you’d prefer a different outfit from what I picked for your character, you can alter the design or even just the colour (I’m looking at you, Luke) to suit whatever you’re going for. For Chewy’s sash, don’t worry about cutting out the tiny pieces at this point. I just cut out strips of grey fabric. Once it is time to glue, cut them out. The length doesn’t really matter.

Step Three

Sew and stuff the bodies. For Chewbacca, I sewed the outside of his body first, leaving the inside of the legs open while I stuffed the top part. Once I had the stuffing in the top section, I sewed the legs.

Step Four

Using a glue gun, attach the legs to the body bases. Once those are secure, glue the arms and ears, then attach the pieces. If you are lost on placement, you can watch the video above.

Step Five

Add the details on the faces. You have a few options here. Personally, I use acrylic paints. However, I suggest you go with your strength, which could include embroidery, fabric paints, or maybe even markers. I apply the paint with a stylus, but you can use a small brush, or even a toothpick for the fine details. If you aren’t feeling confident in the placement of the facial features, you can lightly draw them on first.

That’s all there is to making your own Star Wars dolls! I hope you are able to follow along alright with the instructions and/or the video. Questions? Feel free to drop a note in the comments.
